What Do All These Gates of Olympus Terms Actually Mean?

This glossary covers every term you will encounter across our guides for Gates of Olympus, Gates of Olympus 1000, and GoO Super Scatter. Each definition is written for clarity, not to impress — with practical examples wherever possible.

A
Ante Bet
An optional bet modifier. In GoO/GoO 1000: +25% cost, doubles scatter frequency. In GoO Super Scatter: +50% cost. RTP stays approximately the same.
B
Buy Feature
An option to pay a premium (usually 100x bet) to instantly trigger Free Spins. This bypasses the base game wait. RTP is approximately the same. Unavailable in UK and Germany.
C
Chasing Losses
The behavior of increasing bets to recover previous losses. Each spin is independent — previous losses do not make future wins more likely. This is the most dangerous gambling pattern.
Cluster Pays
A win mechanic used in Fortune of Olympus (7x7 grid) where payouts are awarded for clusters of 5+ adjacent matching symbols rather than paylines or scatter pays.
E
Expected Value (EV)
The average outcome per bet over infinite repetitions. For a $1 bet on GoO (96.50% RTP), the EV is -$0.035 (loss of 3.5 cents). No strategy changes this.
F
Free Spins
A bonus round triggered by landing 4+ Zeus scatter symbols. During free spins, you spin without paying per spin. In Gates of Olympus, the Global Multiplier accumulates throughout all free spins.
G
Gambler's Fallacy
The incorrect belief that past random events affect future probabilities. The game has no memory of previous results. If you have gone 1,000 spins without a bonus, the next spin still has the same trigger probability.
Global Multiplier
The accumulating multiplier during Free Spins in Gates of Olympus. Every multiplier orb is permanently added to a running total that never resets. All subsequent wins are multiplied by this accumulated value. This is the defining mechanic of the franchise.
H
Hit Frequency
How often a game produces any winning result. Gates of Olympus has ~28.82% hit frequency (1 in 3.5 spins). Hit frequency is separate from RTP — frequent small wins can still result in net loss.
House Edge
The mathematical advantage the casino has over players, calculated as 100% minus RTP. A game with 96.50% RTP has a 3.50% house edge, meaning the casino keeps $3.50 per $100 wagered on average.
L
Live Roulette
A live-dealer casino game. Gates of Olympus Roulette is a hybrid that combines live roulette with GoO slot mechanics, including bonus rounds with multiplier potential up to 10,000x.
M
Max Win Cap
The maximum amount a game can pay on a single spin. GoO: 5,000x, GoO 1000: 15,000x, GoO Super Scatter: 50,000x, Fortune of Olympus: 10,000x. Once hit, the bonus ends.
Multiplier Orbs
Random multiplier values (2x to 500x or 1,000x) that appear during play in Gates of Olympus. In the base game, orbs apply to the current tumble only. In Free Spins, they accumulate into a permanent Global Multiplier.
P
Paytable
The chart showing all possible winning combinations and their payouts. All GoO video slots share the same paytable: Crown (highest) through Blue Gem (lowest), with payouts for 8-9, 10-11, and 12+ matching symbols.
R
RNG (Random Number Generator)
The algorithm that determines game outcomes. All Gates of Olympus games use certified RNG tested by GLI, BMM Testlabs, iTech Labs, and eCOGRA. Each spin is independent and unpredictable.
RTP (Return to Player)
The percentage of total wagered money that a game returns to players over time. An RTP of 96.50% means the game pays back $96.50 for every $100 wagered on average across millions of spins. RTP is a long-term statistical measure and does not predict individual session outcomes.
Responsible Gambling
The practice of treating gambling as entertainment with strict time and money limits. The house always has a mathematical edge. Resources: BeGambleAware.org, GamblingTherapy.org.
S
Scatter Pays
A payout mechanic where matching symbols can appear anywhere on the grid to form wins — no paylines needed. All Gates of Olympus video slots use scatter pays. You need 8+ matching symbols on the 6x5 grid (30 positions).
Scatter Symbol
In Gates of Olympus, Zeus is the scatter symbol. 4+ Zeus scatters trigger Free Spins. Scatters pay regardless of position on the grid.
Session Bankroll
The amount of money you allocate for a single playing session. For GoO (High volatility), a minimum of 500x min bet ($100) is recommended. For GoO 1000 (Very High), consider 750-1000x.
Standard Deviation
A statistical measure of result spread. High-volatility Gates of Olympus has a standard deviation of ~8-12x per spin, meaning actual results swing wildly around the 96.50% RTP.
Super Scatter
A special scatter symbol exclusive to Gates of Olympus Super Scatter. When Super Scatters appear in the triggering combination, they award instant prizes up to 50,000x bet.
T
Tumble Feature
Also called cascading reels. After a win, winning symbols are removed and remaining symbols fall down, with new symbols filling empty spaces from above. This can create chain reactions of multiple wins from a single spin.
V
Volatility (Variance)
A measure of how spread out the results are. High volatility means rare but large wins and frequent losses. Low volatility means smaller, more frequent wins. Gates of Olympus is High volatility (5/5); GoO 1000 is Very High.
W
Wagering Requirements
Conditions attached to bonuses requiring you to bet a multiple of the bonus amount before withdrawing. A 35x requirement on $100 means $3,500 must be wagered.
